We all have a biological need for nature & community, so finding a way to tune into either of those spaces in a way that feels right to you would be the place to start. Rebecca has been recommending doing what is at arm's length- invite a friend over for a meal, start that hobby you have been thinking about, learn to make a new recipe, do some googling about mutual aid and community building in your neighborhood or town. Starting by reinforcing that which is just at your fingertips is enough for now. And remind yourself that that is enough. In June, the SGS team visited Wild Ride mustang sanctuary in Sterling, CT. Wild Ride is an amazing space that, to quote, “lets the horses choose to stay wild.” We hiked the mustang-made track system, and got to see some of the positive-reinforcement training done with the mustangs. Now, me and Nicole are not formally trained in equine massage so we have been practicing what her former owners taught us and also going by instinct. What we have found is that Mandy’s typical way of greeting us is to walk up to us and immediately swing her tush around towards us and stand waiting for her booty-massage (this is not even the weird part). This can be a little scary at first because normally when a horse swings their haunches at you, they are getting ready to kick. Not Mandy. She wants a nice butt rub.
